Happy New Year!

Welcome back to the routine of school, homework, and reading every night!  I hope everyone is well rested and ready to get back to work.
We have started our telling time initiative this week and most students have been wearing their watches.  We have been trying to guess the approximate time before looking at the watch this week.  I am trying to get them to at least have an idea of ABOUT what time it would be during the school day.
We have been asking teachers in the town to check for old watches around the house.  If you have any extra/ old kid watches around the house, please donate them to our cause.  Many students still don't have a watch to wear to school.
Don't forget to ask your child often, "What time is it?"

Amphibians!

The students in 212 are becoming amphibian experts! We have talked about frogs, toads, and salamanders. Students have learned about the life cycles and characteristics of these amphibians through videos, lessons, observations, and centers. We even have visiting amphibians from the science center! Check out some photos of our amphibian unit in full bloom!

Conferences

You should have received your child's progress report on Wednesday this week.  Please let me know if there are any questions or concerns.  I have already met with some of you for conferences, but Monday is the big conference day.  Please try to be on time for your conference.  Unfortunately we only have 15 minute blocks, so we will try to stay on schedule and on time.  Thanks & See you then!

Symmetry

We spent that last two days in math discussing symmetry.  Today, the students made symmetrical designs from folding and cutting paper.  Each student made a symmetry poster with his or her designs.  They had to find the line of symmetry for each shape made.  I think they had a blast making the posters, so here are a few examples of their hard work.

HAPPY THANKSGIVING!

I hope you all have a wonderful holiday weekend with your families.  Many students are very thankful to have you as their family and friends.  Enjoy the quality time with family.  I will be seeing most of you soon at conferences!  Please let me know if you still need a conference time or if you need another reminder.

Halloween parade

Here are a few pictures from the famous Francis Wyman Halloween Parade!

Monster Draw

Students made some great monsters for Halloween this week! By rolling a die, they found out how to construct their own monsters. Here are a few examples!
