Today we had a very special experience in school. Our class got to watch a live snake feeding in Mrs. Scott's class. Ms. Pavlicek came to teach us about how snakes eat. We got to see how a snake's jaw bone works to eat its prey whole. Then we actually got to watch a corn snake eat. We are very lucky to have these kinds of experiences only available thanks to our fabulous science center! Thank you Ms. Pavlicek!!!

Writing to Inform
The past couple weeks, we have been learning and practticing some writing techniques that will be helpful in our next informative writing unit.
Our first lesson was on writinig and drawing a map. We learned that a map shows an overhead view, has a title, and usually has a key with symbols. Students also practice map skills for homework as well.
Another writing lesson we had last week, was on fact and opinion writing. After discussing the difference between fact and opinion- the students have been writing one fact and one opinion about amphibians. They learned that a fact can be proven true, while an opinion is one's personal view on a topic. Once we are finished writing the note cards, they will be turned into a fact/opinion guessing game.
Check out some examples of our maps and fact/ opinion cards!
