Recycling and Mary Poppins Preview
Our morning was quite busy! First, we got a sneak preview of the high school musical, Mary Poppins. There are many Francis Wyman alumni in the show. If you are available this weekend, you should go see the show!
We also had a special visit from the amazing Science Center teachers. They have kicked off a recycling challenge at Francis Wyman. Students got to sort their lunch trash from the day before to see how much could have been recycled. For the rest of the week, we are being challenged to waste less food, recycle more, and throw less away. You can try to recycle more and waste less at home too!

Upcoming Events
April and May are shaping up to be a bust time in third grade. Here is a list of important dates to remember.
Please try to have your child in school on time during the PARCC weeks. This will allow them the time they will need to finish the test rather than using make-up days. We will be exploring with some practice tests soon to get used to the testing program on the iPad. We will have some practice questions they will be able to answer as well.

Electricity
On Tuesday, we experimented with circuits to learn about electricity. Students worked in small groups to try creating a closed circuit. Most groups had such great success using problem solving strategies, they were able to experiment with multiple batteries and wires and even switches. We learned that connections have to be in the correct place, circuits have to be connected and closed, shorter circuits have more power, and more batteries give more power.
Most importantly, students learned to plan, try out their plan, and if at first you don't succeed, try, try again!

Wee Deliver and Valentine's Day
What a busy day! Our class delivered mail for the last day of Wee Deliver. The third grade delivered 2.598 pieces of mail in just 4 days!!! Impressive!
Third graders also got to make "Complimats" today. Each student made a heart and others filled their hearts with compliments and good thoughts. It was a nice reminder of the kindness that we are trying to share each day, especially on Valentine's Day!
