Another Short Week

This week started off happy with a Super Bowl Win, Go Pats!! Then, we were all sad about the cancelled field trip.
Hopefully, our rescheduled trip for Tuesday February 10th will not be cancelled due to the next snowstorm headed our way.
This week we started a new unit in math.  We are practicing place value up to 1,000. Students have been learning to write numbers in standard form, expanded form, and number words.  Today we played a game called, "Roll it! Make it! Expand it!"
More class coupons have been used this week too! Students have been switching seats, switching jobs, and bringing in items for show and tell.
Here are some photos from today's game and our show and tells.

Keep Em' Busy!

With all this snow and all of these snow days, I know it is hard to come up with things to do with your children. Please try to make books a part of your child's day.  This weather and lack of school could also evoke some great writing/drawing ideas.  Give them a pencil and some paper and see what happens!

There are many online activities to keep your child learning. Here are just a few that they have used in school and should be able to do independently.
  • i-Ready-  Students can log in with their school account to practice reading skills such as spelling, vocabulary, and comprehension.  Login: Lasid # Password: BPS1 (Doesn't work on tablets. phones, iPads)
  • Reflex Math- Help your child practice his or her basic math facts.  This can be done on the computer or a tablet.  They are very familiar with this app.  Login: bboucher  each student has a password that includes their initials and a 2-digit number.
  • Vocabulary Spelling City-  This app helps students to practice spelling our Fundations trick words through fun, exciting games.  To log in, click on Teacher/Parent, username: fwgrade2, Password: reading
Hopefully we will be back to school Wednesday for our field trip!

SNOW!!!

February is almost here!

I hope everyone has survived Blizzard 2015!  We were able to stay warm and cozy at my house.  Here are some upcoming events and reminders for February 2015!
1.  Our field trip to see the play Pinocchio is next week.  We will go to see the play on Wednesday February 4th.  Please send your child to school with a lunch and separate snack.  Don't forget a drink too!  Students can dress up if they would like, but it is not required!
2.  The 100th day of school and Valentine's Day are quickly approaching.  Look for information in your child's folder for a Valentine's List and 100th day activities.
3.  Wee Deliver is starting at FW!  This is a 2 week letter writing campaign that allows students to practice letter writing and also allows the 3rd graders to be mail-people.  Our class address is 212 Snake Street.  Feel free to write letters to your children.  There will be a mailbox outside of the main office to put letters in.  Students can write letters at home to send to friends, family, or teachers.  We will be writing them in school as well.
4.  Snowy weather.  Please dress your child appropriately for this wintry weather.  We do try to get them outside whenever possible.  Students should have a warm coat, gloves, a hat, and possible boots and snow pants.  I know it is a lot of work to pack and bring, but they have tons of fun out there!
5.  February vacation is from February 14-22.  School will resume on Monday, February 23.
6.  Angelina's mother, Christina Chang, will be visiting the classroom after vacation to help us celebrate Chinese New Year.  If you would ever like to come in to teach us about your culture or holidays, please let me know. Thank you Christina Chang! We can't wait!
7.  Look for the Amphibian/Reptile project to be coming home soon!  Save a shoe box if you have one!

Reptiles

We have begun our research on reptiles this week.  We are learning a lot of interesting facts about these amazing creatures.  We have been comparing reptiles and amphibians to make a new poster soon.  Be sure to ask your child what they have learned so far!

Sharing and Celebrating

Today our class got a chance to celebrate the New Year by writing resolutions.  We discussed ways to make ourselves better in 2015.  Check out our little art project to display these resolutions!
This afternoon we also got to share and celebrate the end of out writing/ science unit. I was blown away by these writing-to-instruct projects.  All the students worked so hard and the pieces came out great.  Some students created a poster, while others made a book on Book Creator using the iPad.  Here are some photos from our day.
