Veteran's Day

On Wednesday, we had the first Francis Wyman Veteran's Day ceremony.  The whole school took part in the ceremony to thank and show respect to veterans that have served our country.  Students sang songs, saluted the flag, and were able to thank our veteran guests.  Five veteran members of our Francis Wyman family were in attendance.  It was a great way to educate our students on the importance and history of Veteran's Day.
Remember to Thank a Veteran tomorrow and everyday!

Grade 3 Mock Election

Today our third graders practiced for their future civic duty, the right to vote.  Each student had to register to vote, get their name checked off, cast their vote and put it in the ballot box.  Mrs. Goguen's class counted up the votes too.  Here are some pictures from the vote.
Results:
Hillary Clinton... 54 votes @ 75%
Donald Trump... 19 votes @ 25%

Halloween

We had a fun day here at Francis Wyman!  Our day started with a Halloween Parade.  There were some awesome costumes all over the building.  In reading classes, we read in the dark.  Some read spooky stories, while others read jokes or silly tales.  In the afternoon, we did some Halloween crafts and Kahoot! quizes too.
Have a fun and safe Halloween night!  Don't eat too much candy, there is school tomorrow!!

Bus Safety

Today we had our annual bus safety lesson to remind students of appropriate behavior at the bus stop, on the bus, and in case of emergency.  Officer Schipelliti spoke to the students as well as some bus drivers.  Please remind your child or ask them to tell you what important safety rules were discussed today.

New Dictionaries!

We would like to thank the Burlington Rotary Club for coming to visit the third grade classes today.  They donate new dictionaries to 3rd graders every year.  Each student will be coming home today with their own student dictionary.  Included in the back are some great resources as well.
Please have your child keep his or her dictionary in a safe spot so it could be used for homework or studying.  We are working on dictionary skills in school as well, so feel free to give them some fun words to try to find.  Today they had to find hero, charity, services, and community: all words describing the wonderful things the rotary club does for Burlington.
