Good-bye & Hello

Last week we had to say "See you next year!" to one of our second grade friends.  Sakhi took a trip to see family in India and will not be back to school this year.  Everyone was sad to see her go, but it was not good-bye for long.
Today we welcomed a new student from India!  We are very excited to get to know our new classmate and friend.  His name is Sowndaryan and he is very polite and seems to get the hang of things quickly.
Big changes in our class lately!  We hope he will enjoy his short time with us in second grade.

  • Also, our music show is this THURSDAY!  We hope you can make it.

Life Cycles LIVE!

The second grade students have been so lucky to be able to watch animal life cycles LIVE! Our Luna Moth snuck out of its cocoon last week. The painted lady caterpillars made their chrysalis last week also. Today we got to see the butterflies come from the chrysalis. Our tadpoles are still swimming around and getting bigger. We can't wait those little legs soon! Check out some pictures of our special visitors! A BIG thank you to the science center for helping us brig learning to life.

Luna Moth

Over the weekend, while we were gone, Luna moths were hatching from their cocoons here at Francis Wyman. Here are some pictures of the beautiful, huge moth.

Earth, Sun, & Moon

Mr. Musselman came to Francis Wyman this afternoon to help us explore the relationship between the earth, sun, and moon. The students were great and some even got to volunteer, ask, and answer questions. We learned some big vocabulary words like rotation, gravity, and orbit. We also found out why our days 24 hours long and why there are 365 days in a year.

THANK YOU!

A BIG thank you to Mrs. Devito (John's mom.) Her company (Hannah Anderson) donated $100.00 to our classroom. After discussing and voting, the kids decided they either wanted to make t-shirts or get playground toys. Since the toys would be something we use everyday, that's what we got! We lucked out having great weather this week to try out our new equipment. Thank you very much! The kids are having so much fun at recess.

Zoo Field Trip this Friday!

Our trip to the Stone Zoo is quickly approaching.  We will be going this Friday April 26, 2013.  The buses will be leaving promptly by 9 am.  Parent chaperones will be asked to drive or carpool to and from the zoo.  Our plan is to be at the zoo from @ 9:30-12:30.
Students should bring a bagged lunch and snack on Friday.  We will not be able to buy school lunch on this day.  We will eat snack and lunch at the zoo.  Please send lunch in a bag rather than a lunchbox, so students don't lose them at the zoo.
We will have fun searching for amphibians, reptiles, and insects.  We will also get to see all other animal types.  They will be challenged to try to find an animal from each of the seven continents too!
Please have your child dress comfortably, we will be going to P.E. after the field trip, so they will need sneakers. THANKS!
